Convex Edge Scissors were made popular by the Japanese. The edges
are ground to a razor sharp 45-50 degree angle that glide through the
hair while cutting. The blades are extra hollow ground, and triple honed
to make the scissor run very quiet and smoothly. |
Bevel Edge Scissors were made popular by the Germans. These scissors
are fully forged with an edge that is ground at a 30-40 degree angle.
Because the edges are not as sharply angled as the convex scissors, one
edge is usually serrated to keep the hair from sliding forward. These
edges are also very nick resistant. |
Economy Scissors usually have plastic handles with stamped steel
blades. These scissors have bevel edges and are less expensive to make
than the fully forged German Style and Convex scissors. These scissors
are good for all around cutting, but not slide cutting. |

Left Handed Scissors and Shears are some of the finest made hair
cutting tools in the world. The natural tendency when a left-handed
person uses a right-handed scissor is to force the blades apart.
Left-handed scissors place the blades in the correct position.
Left-handed Scissors allow you to actually see what you are cutting
without stretching your neck over the opposite side of the blade on
right handed scissors. |
Arius Eickert
Ergonomic Scissors and Shears are designed for users who experience
thumb fatigue and carpal tunnel problems, these shears feature natural
finger movement which results in less hand and thumb fatigue. The
relaxed hand position allows for better posture and less shoulder, elbow
and lower back pains. |

Important! The
scissors lengths listed do not include the finger rests! Only from the tip
of the scissor to the back of the finger rings. The German method included
the finger rest, but since the popularity of screw-on finger rests, the
scissor length measurements no longer include them. (Ex: 5.5" scissor with
finger rest used to be the standard length used for tests etc. This same
scissor would now be considered a 5" as pictured).
What scissor length is good for you?
Some people measure the scissor blade length with the user's palm or finger
length. There are many different techniques, all of which are for the most
part useless, since the proper length is simply what feels good to you! For
most female hair stylists, 5" was the traditional length and barbers liked
7.5". But these traditional lengths have now changed as cutting techniques
evolve and develop. |
